An unprecedented combination of marine and mainland flora and fauna
Saadani National Park is the only natural sanctuary in Tanzania located along the coast, more precisely opposite Zanzibar Island. Its area isn’t particularly large, just over 1,000 km², and inside you won’t find the same variety of animals you can observe in the Serengeti orl Tarangire. Yet Saadani Park is one of a kind and deserves to be considered.
It’s located on a stunning stretch of coast and lets you enjoy the sea while at the same time observing wildlife. Also, precisely because of its unique location, Saadani National Park offers an unusual combination of marine and mainland flora and fauna.
The variety of vegetation is especially appreciated following the course of the Wami River inland, where mangroves give way to palms and acacias. Its waters are populated by crocodiles, hippos and numerous river birds like the African fish eagle, lesser flamingo and bee-eater. In the park you might encounter giraffes, elephants, baboons, vervet monkeys, hyenas, jackals, species of antelope, leopards and – with a bit of luck – even lions. The beaches are among the few remaining places for green sea turtle nesting, and offshore you can spot various fish species, plus dolphins and humpback whales.
