This itinerary covers the southern stretch, from the <strong>capital<\/strong>, <strong>Maputo<\/strong>, to the <strong>beaches of Tofo<\/strong>, then on to <strong>Vilankulo<\/strong> and the <strong>Bazaruto Archipelago<\/strong>. The journey begins with a city steeped in colonial history. It then gives way to full days by the sea, with <strong>snorkeling<\/strong>, <strong>boat trips<\/strong> and encounters with the <strong>marine life<\/strong> of one of East Africa&#8217;s most <strong>biodiverse<\/strong> coastlines.<br><\/p>\n\n\n<style><\/style><style><\/style>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"#prenota-itinerario\">Request more information<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-9-days-in-mozambique-a-taste-urban-life-and-plenty-of-sea\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">9 days in Mozambique: a taste urban life and plenty of sea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your journey starts in <strong>Maputo<\/strong>, current <strong>Mozambique&#8217;s capital.<\/strong> Until 1976 it was known as Louren\u00e7o Marques, named after the Portuguese trader who first explored its bay in 1544. Maputo still preserves its <strong>colonial architecture<\/strong>, including <strong>Art Deco<\/strong> buildings, and is well worth <strong>a walk to discover the city center<\/strong>. Highlights include the Casa de Ferro, attributed to Gustave Eiffel, the Samora Machel monument, the Tunduru Botanical Garden, the Natural History Museum and the art market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This <strong>itinerary<\/strong> is designed in particular for <strong>sea lovers<\/strong>. After one day in the city, you&#8217;ll head to Tofo, a small fishing village on the <strong>Ponta da Barra peninsula<\/strong> in southeastern Mozambique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During your stay in Tofo, you&#8217;ll <strong>snorkel<\/strong> <strong>the coral reef<\/strong>, home to colorful <strong>fish<\/strong> and <strong>mollusks<\/strong>, <strong>crustaceans<\/strong>, <strong>turtles<\/strong> and <strong>rays<\/strong>. You can choose to <strong>dive<\/strong> deeper to explore the <strong>manta ray cleaning stations<\/strong>. On <strong>open-water excursions<\/strong>, you will look for the <strong>whale shark<\/strong>, the largest fish in the world. It can reach 12 meters in length and feeds on plankton. Tofo\u2019s water are also home to <strong>dolphins<\/strong> and, from July to November, <strong>humpback whales.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a few days, you will proceed up the coast to the town of <strong>Vilankulo<\/strong>, facing the <strong>Bazaruto<\/strong> <strong>Archipelago<\/strong>. This group of five islands, from the largest, Bazaruto, to tiny Bangue, is protected by Bazaruto National Park and African Parks. Covering <strong>1,430 km\u00b2<\/strong>, the archipelago is <strong>one of the most important marine sanctuaries<\/strong> on the East African coast. Its <strong>coastal dunes<\/strong>, <strong>coral reefs<\/strong>, <strong>mangrove forests<\/strong> and <strong>seagrass meadows<\/strong> support more than <strong>180 bird species<\/strong> and <strong>hundreds of fish species<\/strong>. Bazaruto is also the only known place in the western Indian Ocean where all <strong>five sea turtle species found in the region nest<\/strong>. While in Vilankulo, you will travel by boat to the islands of Bazaruto and Benguerra to <strong>snorkel<\/strong> at Two-Mile Reef, <strong>dive<\/strong> or go on a <strong>marine safari.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And speaking of safaris, if you&#8217;d like a change of scenery after all that sea, you can enrich your tour by extending it.
