Join us and take part in the projects of <strong>Around AWT<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africawildtruck.com\/en\/around-awt-association-non-profit\/\">non-profit organisation<\/a> we support through Africa Wild Truck via our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africawildtruck.com\/en\/community-levy-2025\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1962\">Community Levy<\/a>. The programme will be enhanced with <strong>a day of hiking in the Mulanje Forest<\/strong> and <strong>safaris in Majete wildlife reserve.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<style><\/style><style><\/style>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"#prenota-itinerario\">Request more information<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-11-days-of-travel-in-malawi-combining-volunteering-and-discovery\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">11 days of travel in Malawi, combining volunteering and discovery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trip begins in <strong>Blantyre<\/strong>. At Chileka Airport, our staff will be there to welcome you and accompany you on the approximately 90 km journey to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africawildtruck.com\/en\/our-base\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2211\">Africa Wild Truck\u2019s historic base<\/a> and our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africawildtruck.com\/en\/lodge-camp\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2189\">lodge and camp<\/a> at the foot of <strong>Mount Mulanje<\/strong>. At 3,002 metres, it is the highest massif in Central Africa and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2025. It is also a magical place for Malawians, with exceptional biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first few days of the trip will be devoted to getting to <strong>know the context<\/strong> in which you\u2019ll be staying. You\u2019ll begin to familiarise yourself with the <strong>local culture<\/strong> with a short <strong>Chichewa course<\/strong> \u2013 the language spoken throughout Malawi \u2013 organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africawildtruck.com\/en\/around-awt-association-non-profit\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2190\">Around AWT<\/a>. Then you\u2019ll meet the <strong>teachers and pupils<\/strong> at <strong>Nswadzi Primary School,<\/strong> the no profit association\u2019s most important project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Around Nswadzi Primary School<\/strong>, opened in 2018, is just a few kilometres from the Africa Wild Truck lodge. It was established at the request of the village chief of the community closest to our base, as children had to walk up to 6 km to get to school. Today, it welcomes around <strong>hundred and fifty students<\/strong>, providing them with a <strong>free meal every day<\/strong> and access to the <strong>Malawi Ministry of Education\u2019s programmes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trip will then move into the heart of the <strong>volunteering<\/strong> experience. As an international volunteer, you can contribute across a <strong>range of subjects<\/strong>, from English and maths to arts and sports, as well as food education and ecology, helping raise awareness of issues that matter to us all. The aim is to help build a strong foundation for <strong>primary education<\/strong> while encouraging children to apply themselves to their studies and <strong>continue on to secondary school<\/strong>. These will also be days of learning and sharing: <strong>volunteering is an exchange<\/strong>, giving you the chance to share your knowledge and gain new skills in return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, this trip will be an opportunity to discover other <strong>sides of Malawi and its nature<\/strong>, which will surprise you with its <strong>landscapes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day will be dedicated to an <strong>excursion on Mount Mulanje<\/strong>. You\u2019ll first reach the <strong>Mbiya Pools<\/strong>, where you can swim, before heading into the <strong>forest<\/strong> for a short trek to discover a unique ecosystem, home to endemic chameleons and the famous <strong>Mulanje cedar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To round off the trip, you will be able to discover <strong>Majete Wildlife Reserve<\/strong>, about 200 km from Mulanje. Until the early 2000s, the reserve was virtually devoid of wildlife, which had disappeared due to poaching. Today, thanks to collaboration between local communities, the Government of Malawi and African Parks, it is a <strong>successful example of wildlife restoration<\/strong>, with more than 2,500 animals reintroduced. On safari, you may encounter all <strong>big five<\/strong>&nbsp; \u2013 <strong>lion<\/strong>, <strong>leopard<\/strong>, <strong>elephant<\/strong>, <strong>rhinoceros<\/strong> and <strong>African buffalo<\/strong> \u2013 and on top <strong>African wild dogs<\/strong> and <strong>cheetahs<\/strong>. Along the banks of the Shire River, you may also spot <strong>hippos<\/strong> and <strong>crocodiles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the itinerary, you\u2019ll be accompanied by a <strong>tour leader from Italy<\/strong> and <strong>professional guides who live in the area<\/strong>. In Mulanje, you\u2019ll stay at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africawildtruck.com\/en\/lodge-camp\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2189\">Africa Wild Truck\u2019s lodge and camp<\/a>, set among <strong>tea plantations<\/strong>, the first to be introduced to Africa in the late 19th century. Bright green hills stretch around you, crossed only by the red tracks that wind through the plantations.
