Activities for guests

If you are a guest at our Africa Wild Truck lodge & camp, we offer a range of activities to make your stay unforgettable and help you discover Mulanje, its landscapes and its culture. For more information or to book, please contact us.

1. Day hike and swim at the Mbyia Pools

Take a dip in the Mbyia Pools, natural pools on the slopes of Mount Mulanje. From the forest reserve entrance it’s about a 1 hour walk to reach them.

Time: approx. 8:00 –15:00. Cost: $45 per person, minimum 2 participants*, guide and packed lunch included.

2. Day hike to Likhubula Falls

On the opposite side of Mount Mulanje lies Likhubula Falls, a hidden gem in the massif’s vegetation. From the forest reserve entrance it’s about a 1.5‑hour walk to reach them.

Time: approx. 8:00–15:00. Cost: $45 per person, minimum 2 participants*, guide and packed lunch included.

Extra: +$15 per person for a picnic lunch.

3. Multi‑day hiking on Mount Mulanje

Experience Mount Mulanje as the pioneers once did. On a multi‑day hike we’ll accompany you to Sapitwa, the mountain’s summit at 3,002 m. Gear for the trek we provide: backpacks, cooking utensils, food. The massif offers many trails of varying difficulty, so the itinerary is agreed the evening before departure with the guide and porter.

Cost: $60 per person per day, full board.

4. Walk through tea plantations

Put on your hiking shoes and follow our guide through the tea plantations on the slopes of Mount Mulanje. Learn how tea is grown and processed, and finish the tour with a cup of Malawi black tea.

Duration: approx. 2 hours.

Cost: $15 per person, minimum 2 participants*.

5.Scenic bicycle tour

Explore the surroundings of our lodge & camp by bicycle, enjoy the lush scenery of Malawi’s oldest tea plantations and views of Mount Mulanje.

Duration: half day.

Cost: $45 per person, maximum 2 participants, bike rental and guide included.

6. Birdwatching

If you love birdwatching, take advantage of our local guides’ expertise to spot and identify the bird species typical of the Mulanje area.

Duration: approx. 2 hours, early morning only.

Cost: $45 per person, minimum 2 participants*.

7. Pool relaxation

Our small pool is reserved exclusively for lodge guests for a moment of relaxation and is available free of charge.

8. Shopping at Ruo market

Right behind the Africa Wild Truck lodge & camp a local market takes place. Shopping with local people is an authentic, unmissable experience.

Duration: approx. 2 hours, Saturdays only.

Cost: $5 per person, minimum 2 participants*.

9. Visit to a local village

To gain deeper insight into local life, we offer visits to a Malawian village to meet the village chief and learn more about daily life.

Your stay at our lodge & camp includes a 1% community fee. Additionally, for each village visit we donate 10,000 MWK to a local project.

Duration: approx. 2 hours.

Cost: $20 per person, minimum 2 participants*.

*Price Adjustments


For activities requiring a minimum of 2 participants, solo traveller pays a $20 supplement. Children up to 12 years of age receive a 50% discount. Reduced rates may apply for larger groups.
