The Africa WIld Truck base at the foot of Mount Mulanje

The main base of our tour operator is located in Mulanje, Malawi, approximately 80 km from the city of Blantyre. We settled here in 2004 at the end of the journey that marked the beginning of Africa Wild Truck. Then, in 2025, we felt the need to be closer to the people travelling with us and opened a second operational office in Blantyre, home to one of the country’s most important airports.

Mulanje remains our historic base and the heart of all our itineraries through Malawi. Our offices and Lodge & Camp are surrounded by nature at the foot of Mount Mulanje. Rising to 3,002 metres, it is one of the highest peaks in Southern Africa and forms part of the Mount Mulanje Forest Reserve. The area is also part of UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves, recognised for its unique climate, remarkable vegetation and endemic wildlife.

Our property is the ideal place to stay while travelling through Malawi, whether for a single night before a mountain trek or for a longer stay exploring the Mulanje district.

The Africa Wild Truck Lodge & Camp offers a variety of accommodation options, as well as a restaurant that is also open to non-residents by advance reservation. You can also visit our shop, where you’ll find locally made products and Africa Wild Truck merchandise.

How to reach the Africa Wild Truck base in Mulanje

From Blantyre airport

The Africa Wild Truck base is located approximately one hour from Blantyre International Airport. Follow the M2 Thyolo Road towards Mozambique. Around 20 km beyond Mulanje Boma, you will reach the bridge over the Ruo River. After crossing the bridge, you will find us approximately 1 km further on the left-hand side. Simply follow the signs.

From the Muloza-Milange border

After crossing the Muloza border, continue along the tarmac road. After approximately 6 km, you will see a large forest on your right. Shortly afterwards, take the second dirt road on the right and follow the signs. The AfricaWildTruck base is located around 500 metres further on, also on the right-hand side, just beyond the Nswadzi Primary School.
