Home to the world’s largest bat migration
Kasanka National Park is one of Zambia’s smallest national parks, yet it stands out for its exceptionally water-rich environment. The park contains eight lakes and four rivers, including the Kasanka River, which give rise to wetlands, forests and floodplains.
These diverse habitats provide ideal conditions for a wide variety of wildlife. Visitors may encounter hippos, crocodiles, elephants, jackals and several species of antelope, including puku, the smaller duikers, sable antelope and the elusive sitatunga.
Above all, Kasanka National Park is famous for a natural spectacle unlike any other. Between November and December, more than five million fruit bats arrive from the Congo basin forest, darkening the skies in what is considered the largest mammal migration on Earth.
The park is also a paradise for birdwatchers, offering the opportunity to observe more than 460 bird species.
