Tarangire National Park

Where the river is the heart of a spectacular mass migration

Tarangire National Park is also known as the “park of giants”, for its colossal baobabs and for having the highest concentration of elephants in all of Tanzania. 

The heart of the park is the river it’s named after. The Tarangire makes the landscape very lush; swamps alternate with woodlands and grassy plains where, besides baobabs, umbrella acacias tower. But the aspect that makes the park a must-visit destination isn’t actually its vegetation.

The Tarangire River is one of the few water sources available year-round, and for this reason it attracts a huge number of animals during the dry season. Between August and October you can witness a spectacular mass migration involving elephants, wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, buffalo, warthogs, impalas and many antelope species, including fringe-eared oryx and gerenuks, the “giraffe antelope”, plus ostriches and hundreds of bird species. But also predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, African wild dogs and many others.

Precisely because of the simultaneous presence of all these species, a safari in Tarangire National Park is a unique, unrepeatable and thrilling experience.
