Set off on a journey to Zimbabwe, where historic heritage meets rich biodiversity
If you want an experience steeped in cultural charm and natural wonder, set off on a journey to Zimbabwe. Located in the heart of southern Africa, the country stands out for its rich historical heritage and unique biodiversity.
The Victoria Falls are the main attraction, one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural spectacles, where the Zambezi River plunges over 100 metres into a gorge of the African Great Rift Valley.
But the falls aren’t the only natural attractions Zimbabwe offers. Mana Pools National Park features striking seasonal pools formed by the Mana River before it flows into the Zambezi. Hwange National Park is famed for its safaris and gives you the chance to spot the big five, while Gonarezhou National Park is home to one of the last populations of large‑tusked elephants. The Matopos Hills, meanwhile, are an area of granite kopjes sculpted by weathering over millennia into distinctive forms. Zimbabwe has 11 national parks and 232 game and forest reserves: protected areas cover around 27% of the country.
Alongside these natural wonders lies Zimbabwe’s rich historical and cultural heritage. Numerous rock paintings have been found in the Matopos Hills area, while the most significant testimony to ancient civilisations is the Great Zimbabwe archaeological site, the largest megalithic complex in sub-Saharan Africa, dating back to the 11th century. The site remains a key reference point for national identity today.
