The tourism capital of Botswana
Maun was founded in 1915 as the tribal capital of the Batawana people and it still has the feel of a dusty frontier town. In fact it remains a reference point for rural life in local communities, for example for cattle trading. However, during the 1980s it expanded and changed a lot due to the increase in tourists, and today it’s an eclectic mix of huts and modern buildings.
It’s considered the tourism capital of Botswana and is the gateway to the Okavango Delta.
